Legacy Cost is a classic adventure game where the main character is a young guy with blond hair. Before the quest begins, the main character was a determined apprentice of a small smithy. The character’s blacksmith master was a veteran who enjoyed teaching young apprentices the ins and outs of the profession. This blacksmith master taught his apprentices how to forge the sharpest swords. After a lot of dedicated service, the blacksmith master decided to retire and gift the apprentice the smithy. The hero learned that he had been gifted a smithy with a great burden. The former blacksmith master of the character’s apprentice left a one billion dollar debt. This debt was far beyond the character’s means with traditional service and overtime jobs.

To help pay off the family debt, the hero takes up the profession of monster hunting. Most of the game takes place fighting off monster waves in the deep forest. Many players have lost their lives up this path and have littered the forest with valuable metals and materials. Game progression is practically automatic as the player is essentially just cutting down trees and battling monsters. The goal is to enter the dangerous areas of the world, cut down monsters, and collect all the resources possible. In order to pay off the debt to the blacksmith for the family honor, a massive amount of gold is needed and can only be obtained through these resources.

The game includes a unique UI and a set of objectives that help define the gaming experience. Before you begin, name your hero. Your name must contain at least 8 letters. The game UI incorporates a ‘wood shop’ theme with dark brown. One of the first things players notice is the debt bar (set to -$1B), with negative numbers on a debt/ liabilities tracker, which could cause confusion. The ‘debt’ actually represents the gold that the player has yet to collect. The negative number decreases as the player collects metal ingots, which are found by killing monsters in the forest. The automated combat system replicates the feel of old school fighting games to add a little context to the player’s struggle. By making the demons’ drops inventory management, players will eventually achieve the goal of having no debts and owning the smithy.
